Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy harnesses the power of water’s natural properties—buoyancy, resistance and hydrostatic pressure—to create a safe and effective way for canines to exercise without placing significant stress on their joints.

  • Being fully supported in water allows for a low-impact, controlled, weight-bearing exercise that allows dogs to move in ways that they cannot on land.
  • The depth of water and speed can be adjusted to allow the session to be tailored specifically to each dog’s unique needs.
  • Warm water can relax muscles and ease aches and pains.
  • Senior pets with arthritis and muscle atrophy (as well as post-operative pets) benefit as it is a safe way to exercise with reduced stress on joints.
  • Canine athletes, or highly active breeds, can also benefit from the cardiovascular workout and improved stamina and endurance.

Hydrotherapy has specific therapeutic effects on body tissues.

  • Relief of pain, swelling & stiffness
  • Muscle strengthening and maintenance
  • Increased range of motion in joints
  • Improved circulation
  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Increased speed of recovery
  • Increased proprioception (awareness of movement)
  • Weight loss, in conjunction with diet

Laser Therapy

Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as laser therapy, is one of the most effective modalities for pain management and promotion of healing. Results are achieved when a sufficient dose of light reaches both superficial and deep tissue, and results in decreased inflammation and pain while accelerating healing. The treated cells use the energy to stimulate and repair themselves, thereby accelerating the body’s natural healing process, resulting in a faster recovery.

Each session only takes a few minutes depending upon the area and condition being treated. A handheld laser wand is slowly moved back and forth over the affected area, producing a warming sensation. Most dogs lay down and relax during the treatment while others enjoy a tasty treat. This is a great photo opportunity of your canine companions sporting their “Doggles” to protect their eyes during the session.

Remedial Massage Therapy

Do you enjoy the benefits of massage therapy? Your canine companion can too!!
Massage is a complimentary and important adjunct to other therapies and has wide-ranging benefits to improve and support the overall health and wellness of our canine companions. Benefits include:

  • Improved circulation to bring in nutrients and oxygen to cells and removes waste products
  • Improved lymphatic flow throughout the body
  • Assist the body in achieving homeostasis and relaxation via the parasympathetic nervous system
  • Help break down adhesions between layers of muscle and fascia
  • Prevent/treat excessive scar tissue
  • Reduce pain and unpleasant movements
  • Improved flexibility and range of motion by restoring normal muscle length

The combined benefits lead to the possibility of a much healthier and less painful life for your pet and more quality time for you both.

PEMF Therapy

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy, a safe and non-invasive therapy, stimulates cellular repair by upregulating the body’s own production of nitric oxide which increases blood flow to help reduce inflammation and discomfort.

PEMF can either be delivered by laying on a mat or by wearing a loop. Both are available and can be used in conjunction with massage therapy. The treatment time is 15 minutes.

Senior Pets

It is such an honor and rewarding experience caring for a senior pet. Hydrotherapy, massage therapy and laser therapy can really make a difference that leads to overall-improved mobility and enjoyment of life so you can spend as much time together as possible. As dogs age, these therapies can reduce stiffness and soreness, reduce arthritic pain and increase strength to help them live their best life.
